OSG, in conjunction with the Clinical Cancer Research Trust and the Dublin Insurance Athletic Association, have joined forces to help combat cancer, a disease which sadly one in three of us will experience in our lifetime.

We are doing this through the Double D4 Fun Run, which promises to be a great day out for all involved.

Simply signing up through your €25 donation puts you in the running (!) for a pretty sweet draw for an extra day’s annual leave in 2016 for all staff, and the run will be followed by an epic beachside barbecue complete with live music, and more prizes to be won on the day.

We know that fitness levels vary from person to person, so the Fun Run is something you can walk, crawl, skip, jog or somersault through if you wish.

And if the very thought of going for a run makes you break into a sweat, then you can volunteer to help out on the day, or simply pop along for the food and entertainment afterwards. €10 will get you two drinks and a burger.

What’s more, there are tonnes of fantastic prizes to be won on the day, including a €150 voucher for Lillie’s Bordello, two Dublin jerseys, a selection of beauty hampers, a one night stay including breakfast for two in the Tara Towers Hotel, Dingle Gin, tickets to the Old Jameson Distillery and whiskey, a child’s electric guitar, brunch for four in the Intercontinental Hotel and a FitBit health tracker, with more to be announced shortly.

We’re also making it super easy for you to sign up – we will be stationed in the reception area on Friday 27th May, payday, so those of you feeling flush can sign up and donate €25 to a very worthy cause. Entrants can also pay on the day.

So, Why All The Fuss?
As many of you know, the Double D4 fun run was set up by Nicky Hughes, owner of Sandymount Montessori and daughter of our CEO Malcolm Hughes, and her husband Ian Doyle. Nicky was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer just over 4 years ago at the age of 27.
Having undergone surgery and undergoing chemotherapy, Nicky and Ian decided to establish a venture to raise awareness of breast cancer and raise money for cancer charities, particularly in aid of support services for those recently diagnosed with and undergoing cancer treatment.
And so DD4 was born, with the headline event being the DD4 Fun Run held in the summer of 2012. This was a huge success, raising in excess of €36,000. Through this and other smaller events such as bake sales, Nicky and DD4 have raised over €50,000 to date. The run also exemplifies Nicky’s ethos surrounding the importance of nutrition and exercise as part of the fight against cancer.
Unfortunately, Nicky’s story is not a rare one, and many of us have been touched by cancer in some way. Fortunately there are steps we can take to help – literally. Every single penny raised from the DD4 Fun Run will go directly to the Clinical Cancer Research Trust, who conduct research in St. Vincent’s Hospital, Dublin City University and University College Dublin.

So whether you’re running style is more slow and steady or Sonia O’Sullivan, please do come along. I think we can all agree that the DD4 fun run makes for a very worthy cause.
